When squirrels can reach seed in a bird feeder they eat and scatter a large amount of the birdseed.  Birdfeeders designed to thwart these raiders use their weight against them or prevent reaching the seed.  If squirrels are a problem at your feeder select either one with ports that close from the squirrel's weight on the perch or surrounded by a cage.
