Gold finch and cardinals prefer black oil sunflower seeds in tube or platform birdfeeders.  Woodpeckers easily perch on suet feeder and hummingbirds thrive on nectar.  Hanging the right bird feeder is as important as offering the correct bird feed when trying to select particular birds to your garden.
