Gardener's Corner

Seed catalogs are arriving in my Ohio mailbox and it's been a really mild winter so far.  Yet it is Ohio the snow will certainly arrive before the end of the month.  Crackling fire, hot chocolate, warm blanket and seed catalogs create an ideal January day!

I noticed yesterday that the sunlight was staying around a bit longer which is certainly a positive sign that garden time will arrive in less than 8 weeks.  If you start plants indoors now is the time to order seeds so you're ready.  Seeds should be started 6-8 weeks before the last frost day in your area.

Let's Feed the Birds

With the arrival of colder temperatures in a large portion of the United States, the plant seeds and insects the birds feed on have become scare.  Birds have migrated to their winter homes but finding food that will sustain them through the cold weather becomes harder as the temperatures drop.  Snow will soon blanket the ground covering up insects and other food.

Now is the time to clean the feeders or buy new ones, keeping them filled for our feathered friends until the flowers and insects once again appear.
